End of drawdown trip

It took a few days in a row to pull off a picture worthy post. It happens and thanks to old friends that understand fishing isn't always on fire. Rodman is being filled again so the bass are moving and can be a bit difficult to locate. We fished to no avail for an hour and moved a few times then....... racked off about 8 fish fast then kept it going with some sweet 8 pounders!

Bass fishing Rodman Reservoir was hot today! These guys from Virginia Finished up with a top fish at 8LBS (7.99) Many 3-5 pounders for a quality fishing trip.

I had 2 days with these repeat clients bass fishing on Rodman Reservoir the last 2 days. Day 1 was OK and we had a few fish with an 8. Most were smaller but fun. Day 2 was a miserable start without a bite till till almost 10. It sucks but happens. Then after some moves and the sun broke through the fog..... BOOM! We blew up a hole with a 9.33 as the fish of the day. Great to see these guys again.

Father and son 2 day trip

It's a family affair

It's a family affair. Today I had Dad and wife after the last post of Cody and wife. Once again the lady had the hot hand bass fishing  on Rodman Reservoir in Florida. Another trophy 8.3LB and it was caught immediately on the first cast. Ha Ha that's just another great story to tell. Great folks from PA.

Some days are oddly special. What I mean is all odds are against you. The water temp dropped 10 degrees as a cold front came a callin'. I had a pucker factor for sure when I looked at the electronics. Then this gal busted her first fish ever, I mean never caught a fish, trophy 8 pounder. Crazy, and she was a natural! The bite was as frosty as the weather and freezing wind but what we caught was all solid big fish. Great day with this young couple from PA on Rodman.

The competition was on for the Moore family and you can see the winner. I love the fun and games of this work. The pre cold front on Sunday kicked em off. Landed 15 bass and 3 big crappie/speck by 9:30. Great morning with repeat guests. Look forward to seeing you folks again.

Chilly morning fish

Day 2 with Mike and family started at 28 degrees! That's stupid for Florida. It was an odd foggy morning and Jr. just wacked em with 12 fish by 9AM. Oddly Rodman has been shutting down around 9 or 9:30 the last few days. I think the changing moon phase and warmer weather will change this pattern.

Slow start this morning with odd water conditions in the first area we fished. Usually a good spot only managed 3 or 4 small bass. After a few moves the bass graced us with their presence. Had 3 5's and a 7lb fish for the biggest bass on the day. The fishing will remain outstanding through March accept for an occasional 1 off day. That's nature. Florida bass fishing is never better than right now.

The big girls chewed today on Rodman Reservoir (day 1) with long time client and friend Danny. An 8 and 9.30 maxed out our morning. Florida bass fishing is world class and on the drawn down it's even better. I have a few dates open for now but they go fast.

A repeat pleasure to have little Noah on the boat. This boy shot an 800LB pig yesterday and today busted loose on some bass. That's raisin' em right! Fishing time was about 3hrs with around 15 fish. Noah got a 6 pounder and we lost a big one at the boat. Great day with new friends. Florida bass fishing is only getting better. Not many days in Jan. and Feb, left

Had Gray and sons out on Rodman today.Lost track of how many we caught but, it was a lot. All quality fish. No monsters but many 4-6 pounds and some great father son double hook ups

I fished these guys 2 days and it was less than expected. Usual holes didn't produce but! Went back in the memory files files of an old guide and pushed the boat past some hazards and busted a few to save the day. Great clients. Fun days. What can I say, we don't always crush it.

Rodman on the drawdown is always special. Blew up the bass today pre cold front. It was a slow morning start then the fish turned on with over 20 bass on a 6 hour trip with a 13.2 to start the winter season. Yee haw! Book early and often dates are filling up.

I had the honor of taking Noah(5) and Dad Ron out today. These days are the best. The little man was hauling them in(with a bit of help). Always a raise of the glass for folks raising them right. The drawdown has begun and this season should have spectacular fishing.

Scallop season is in full swing and all reports are good with limits being accomplished in an hour or 2. The sizes are good as well. Come enjoy a day scalloping or a fish and scallop full day. Great fun with friends and family.

Father Daughter outing

I say I have special days so often but, it's true. So many special days. I don't give children's names but this young lady was a natural. A few tips and at 12 she was on her own! Casting, setting hooks and fighting fish to the boat. She now has a PB of 8 pounds and well, smoked dear old Dad this morning. Always refreshing to meet well raised children and great Fathers. She even laughed at me taking the equivalent of a banana slip spill! I told her I would have been disappointed if she didn't.

Fished with my new friend Chris from Birmingham pre nasty front and before the Daytona 500. The pics don't show the howling winds that came. No monsters but non stop solid 3-5's. We tucked and ran at 11 before it got real bad.

Day 2

Day2. We missed a 2 that may have been really big. That's fishing. Before 9 o'clock we had 11 fish but nothing over 5 lbs. We were on the hunt for a MONSTER so we abandoned the old don't leave fish to catch fish and made some moves and started using 8 -10 inch baits. We only managed two 7s after running slim on bait, on the smallest baits we had? Go figure.

Day 1 of 2

Day 1 of a 2 day trip Feb 9, with a great new person to know. Semi retired Tuna fisherman. He had knowledge and great stories to tell. Pretty flawless fisherman in the later days of life but, still living it everyday. His last tuna he caught was 180lbs on a spinning rod! Day 1 we had around 13 fish and most solid 3-6 pound fish.

Prior to a storm rolling in Dennis and Steve got on a great bite. Several fish caught with the top being around 5lbs. We got back to the ramp in the nick of time before high winds and heavy rain.

Had new clients Ash , Noah, and Josh out for a morning trip. The weather was beautiful and finished the half day trip just before the Florida heat kicked in. Boated over 15 bass from 2-4 pounds. That's a solid morning for summer bass fishing. I always hope and fish for a "MONSTER" but hey sometimes they don't show. The water's up to 86 degrees already. We were tossing wild shiners from 3 to 8 inches long on 2 and 4 Kahle hooks.

Great morning fishing with these fine folks from Kentucky. 17 fish total on a half day trip. We had a good early start at daybreak, key thing this time of year. Once the bite started after about 45 minutes of nothing the fish kept coming in steady. Rodman has a tendency to turn on and off throughout the day. Caught the sweet spot this morning. The highlight of everyone's day was young Brantly catching his bass bass all on his own, cast, hook set and reeled him in. He also scored a catfish and big toothy gar for a bonus! Kids love teeth.

Big Big Bass

Special day on Rodman Reservoir with returning customer/friend Paul. We started amazingly as the only boat in sight with 62 degree water, zero wind and flat calm water. The whole area started moving as schools of bait moved in and the bass went off! First fish was an 11 and the second was a 10 that was weighed twice as it looked way bigger. We didn't count the many other fish cuz why after that start.

What a special morning.  Had Father and Son Owens and busted up a pile of bass. Top dog at 8lbs and my young man did it all himself! Once again, so priceless to do this work. Pre cold front fishing on Rodman Reservoir. Jan. 5th 

Off to another good morning start on Rodman with Tyler and Logan. Ms. Logan scored her PB. Solid fish were chewing till mid trip then they caught lockjaw prefront. All in all a really good fun day out.  

We use mostly wild caught shinners. Either free lined or on a float with 20lb Power Pro braided line and based on the size of the bait 2/0 to 6/0 Kahle hooks.

Rodman Reservoir 12-27 Christmas Bass Fishing

The day started with promise as a 3-4 pounder bit on the very first cast, setting an optimistic tone. However, an hour of quiet fishing followed, causing some concern for the guide. We caught only one fish at each stop, and the phrase "well, that's fishing" echoed. Around 11 o'clock, the day took a turn for the better with an 11-pounder putting on a spectacular show, grabbing a 10-inch shiner mid-air. Wrapping up the day, we had a total of 9 additional catches, including the joyous moment of a young lady's first fish.
